Play synopsis: This play details a over-strong bond between frail, elderly mother and middle-aged, fading son. She arrives from the last of the French colonies. He is washed out, with his career as a gigolo having reached rock-bottom. When his mother meets his unloved mistress, her capacity for obsessive destruction is fired.
Production history: Whole Days in the Trees, taken from an early story, was performed by Madeleine Renaud in Paris in 1965 and Peggy Ashcroft in London in 1967, in the RSC production which the BBC televised in 1967.
