Play synopsis

A light comedy in which the young Earl of Lyndon determines to relinquish his title and the family’s country house on acquiring an American fiancée. The spirit of his autocratic late father, however, returns via the body of one Mr Fishwick of Shepherd’s Bush in order to take charge of affairs, but becomes keenly aware of the comic possibilities of his guise.

Production history

The Radio Times, 21 October 1955, p. 39 suggests that the premiere of this play was staged in 1947. It is known to have been performed at the St James’s Theatre, London in that year.
