Play synopsis: Comedy set in the 1910s. The action takes place in the kitchen of the Hawthorns’ house, Burnley Road, Hindle; and in the breakfast-room of the Jeffcotes’ house Bank Top, Hindle Vale. When it is discovered that Fanny Hawthorn had spent a weekend with a young man during her holiday in Blackpool, she is unrepentant, refusing to marry him, despite being disowned by her community and the threat of losing her job at the local mill in Hindle, Lancashire.
