Play synopsis

The play tells of a young schoolmaster haunted by the fear that he may have inherited bad instincts from his father. He was an adopted child who has learned that his biological father was hanged for murder. The fear ruins his career and his marriage. His mother is traced and she helps to dispel his torment.
