Footfalls

Summary

1990 production of Footfalls by Samuel Beckett, who had recently died, presented by Channel 4 in a series of programmes given under the banner Homage to Beckett: these included the documentary film Silence to Silence and a performance of Krapp’s Last Tape on 11 February 1990, the piece for television Eh Joe on 12 February, Footfalls on 13 February and Rockaby on 14 February.

Play synopsis

Unable to sleep, a woman paces around and hears a voice, apparently that of her mother. In a silence only broken by her own footfalls, she embarks upon a haunting monologue.

Production history

First performed at the Royal Court, London as part of the Samuel Beckett Festival on 20 May 1976, directed by Beckett himself.
