Play synopsis

A mystery melodrama in which the murderer establishes an alibi by changing the time on a clock - and gets away with the murder at the end. Philip Sevilla intends to take to Paris, and then abduct to South America, the girl that Colin Derwent loves, Betty Findon. Derwent shoots Sevilla, concocts his alibi with the clock, and fools the police - but not Betty, who realises with horror what he has done for her.

Production history

Premiered on 8 February 1933 at the Haymarket Theatre, London, where it played for more than eight hundred performances. Published by Gollancz in 1933. Filmed in 1935.
