Play synopsis: 'The scene is Algiers in the winter of 1942. Members of local resistance groups have long been awaiting the coming of an Allied invasion force. But the arrival of the Americans and the British does not bring them exactly the freedom they had anticipated. For the Americans make a deal with the Vichy French Admiral, Marcel Vespery, and once again the patriots find themselves in danger of arrest and execution’ (Radio Times, 27 May 1960, p. 9).
Production history: Savoy Theatre, London, 1943. It was completed before D-Day but its performance was held up for security reasons.
