    The New York Public Library produces a range of interesting resources relating to its own services, as well as a number of podcasts about books and culture in general. The Librarian is In is a lively podcast presented by staff of the New York Public Library. Styling itself the ‘podcast about books, culture and what to read next’ each episode does exactly that, adding information about issues affecting librarians and information professionals. Amongst the other other offerings are the Louis Armstrong Jazz Oral History Project and interviews with writers like Michael Chabon, Richard Price, Wole Soyinka, Art Spiegelman and Tom Wolfe.

Including contribution from some of the first students, administrative staff and tutors, the resource provides some fascinating insights into the early years of the university.     LIMA is a Dutch arts body that promotes sustainable access to media art, aiming to ensure the preservation of video, digital and performance artwork. Their collection dates back to the early 1960s and includes work by many prominent artists including Nam June Paik, Nicolas Provost, Marina Abramovic, Nan Hoover and Jan Fabre. A number of useful videos provide a series of ‘tours’ around the collection, looking at different thematic areas, such as Cinema, Performance and Activism. The LIMA catalogue features over two thousand works by five hundred national and international artists: each entry is catalogued by keyword, date, type, genre and artist. Many clips are accompanied by a video preview. The works are available to hire: details are given here and many are also available to buy for educational use.

    Online selection of interviews and discussions with film directors, actors, critics and scholars taken from the archives of the Austrian Film Museum. The museum began filming its events in 1975 and among the earliest recordings is an interview with Rainer Werner Fassbinder. Other interviewees include Anna Karina, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Claire Denis, Claude Lanzmann, Alexander Kluge and Michael Haneke. All clips are presented in the language(s) as spoken originally, without subtitles.

    This site gives a fascinating glimpse into life in Austria in 1938, seen from the perspective of fifty ‘ephemeral’ films selected from the collections of the Austrian Film Museum, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute. These films - amateur, educational, industrial, scientific - act as a corrective to the official film record (mainly Nazi propaganda films) and give an insight into daily life in prewar Austria, depicting the vibrant Jewish community, the turmoil of the Anschluss and the persecution of the Jews which followed the Nazis’ takeover.

    Beautifully designed site featuring digitised footage, sounds and documents from New Zealand and Australian film archives about the First World War. The site was created to commemorate the centenary of Australia and New Zealand’s involvement in World War One by showcasing audio-visual material related to the war held by Nga Taonga Sound & Vision (NTSV) and the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia (NFSA). Designed for browsing, the site has been arranged according to three main subjects: Homefronts, Battlefronts and Aftermath. Within each subject users can browse content arranged according to different themes, including cinema going, the home front, conscription, war in Europe, the Gallipoli Campaign, Anzac Day etc. Users can also search for material via an interactive timeline and map.

    The Arctic and Barents Documentary Film database contains information on over 35,000 films made in or about the Arctic held by the archives of the Russian TV companies GTRK Murman, TV Pomorye and Finnish broadcaster YLE. Detailed information with scene by scene description and a digitised preview (in avi format) is available for more than 1000 films, but researchers wishing to view the films in their entirety will have to travel to the University of Lapland.
