Science and Society, launched in June 2003, was one of the first-internet radio programmes, and the site claims that it was one of the first in the United States to introduce downloadable podcasts as a value-added service. The podcasts present interviews with more than 600 world leaders in science, industry, and education. It focuses on Environmental conservation and sustainable energy policy, Medical breakthroughs, including cancer research, genetics and genomics, and bioengineering, Nanotechnology, Space exploration, Robotics and computer science and K-12 science education. The podcasts can be searched by themes such as Genetics and Genomic Medicine, Robotics and AI and Stem Cell Research. Each entry incorporates information about the speaker and bullet points summarising content.

The description of content is good, there is a keyword searching facility, and helpfully the summary gives information on the director/producer/interviewer. The Geological Society of London’s podcast series produced by Earth Science Communicator, Sarah Day, features London lecturers, as well as other geoscientists, speaking about their latest discoveries. Recent podcasts (7/2015) include Professor Davies on fracking, Rebecca Lunn from the University of Strathclyde on discussing UK efforts to dispose of high level radioactive waste, and our moral obligation to find a long term solution and Professor Al Fraser discussing Arctic oil and gas exploration. The Society hosted the Shell London Lecture Series throughout 2013. These monthly public lectures are all available as podcasts. A succinct summary of content accompanies each title.
