What is a feminist? This site presents an extensive response to that question in the form of a well-curated oral history archive of the lives of British feminists. The fruit of a Leverhulme funded research initiative, the project’s researchers interviewed 60 feminists who were active in the Women’s Liberation movement in the UK in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s.
The site features interviews with women arranged around a number of themes, including Activism, Equality and Work, Education, Politics and Legislation, Race, Place and Nation, Sex, Love and Friendship, Bodies, minds and spirits, Family and Children, Changing Cultures and the Arts and Who we Were and Who we Are. The audio clips on this site have been extracted from longer interviews which are available in their entirety at the British Library.
Other resources on the site include Biographies page with profiles of prominent members of the British feminist movement, including academics, writers and broadcasters such as Beatrix Campbell, Sheila Rowbotham and Jenni Murray. An interactive Timeline begins in 1961 and charts the significant social and political events (and legislation) of the times alongside landmark episodes in the women’s movement. The material on this site is a fraction of what was recorded for the project: much more is available at the British Library.

Rudimentary in appearance, this site is nonetheless of considerable interest for its collection of audio items featuring American feminist writer Andrea Dworkin speaking at debates, rallies, in interviews and discussions. Some of the interviews are accompanied by transcripts. The site appears to be inactive as of 2016.

Personal blog which features hundreds of links to a variety of resources about the life and work of Jane Austen and the Regency era. The extensive list of podcasts includes readings of the books, discussions by writers and academics as well as items on the television and film adaptations of the novels, such as this interview with Andrew Davies about his adaptations of the novels for television in which he explains why putting a seduction scene at the beginnning of ‘Sense and Sensibility’ was not done simply to shock the ‘Jane Austen faithful’.

This podcast is based on the simple idea of taking Hollywood scripts that have not yet been made into films and presenting them as full length radio plays, performed by Hollywood actors. The podcast is hosted by Leonard Franklin’s Black List site, which exists to support screenwriters by recommending their work to industry producers and professionals. Another interesting resources on the Black List site is 500 Feminist Films, a list of films (with links to imdb) based on a simple set of criteria: to qualify as a feminist film the film must have at least one of the following: a female director; a female screenwriter; a female lead; or features strong pro-woman themes. The list could be a good starting point for classroom/semimar discussion on the subject. The Table Reads podcast is also freely available in iTunes

Academics from the University of Edinburgh discuss a theme of contemporary relevance in this monthly podcast. The first episode saw professors from the schools of law, economics and history discuss the issues associated with Scottish independence before the 2014 referendum. Other podcasts have more of a magazine format, covering several topics, but the general focus is on current political, economic and social issues, including migration within the EU, the rise of Russian nationalism, and women’s rights, as well as more local issues, such as Scottish oral history and the negative effects of Edinburgh’s self-image. The podcast is also available on iTunes.
