Ed Prosser is a multi-media producer with a background in science. This site features his work, in audio and video, including films made for the Ri, podcasts and audio documentaries. Prosser also provides links to and comments on other science videos which he finds interesting. One of the most useful aspects of the site, are the extensive production notes which accompany each film. These notes explore the challenges of making science films. Prosser looks at the technical aspects of filmmaking: how to integrate interviews, animation, slides, what equipment to use etc. but also explores the challenges of how to clearly present complex scientific ideas to a YouTube audience without sacrificing accuracy.

The new EUscreen portal features content from over twenty archives and broadcasters across Europe, bringing together videos, stills, text and audio that provide an insight into the social, cultural, political and economic events that have shaped the 20th and 21st centuries. The content is freely available and offers researchers and academics the chance to study and compare the development of European television history across national borders. Much of the content on the new site is organised by series entry, allowing users to more easily trace not only the progress of historical events but also the changing modes of television production across the decades. A unified metadata schema unites Europe’s heterogenous audiovisual collections and provides a rich and detailed level of description which will enable researchers to contextualise the material and place it in its proper historical, social and technological environment. The new version of the portal supports html5 playout which allows the content to be viewed on mobile devices and tablets.

Colin Grimshaw, who worked in the Imperial College Television Studios for over forty years, maintains this blog, which showcases material from Imperial’s archives. The entries which accompany the videos provide a commentary on the history of the college, as well as an interesting record of the use of moving image technology from the 60s onwards, both in terms of the practical and technical aspects of video production, and in the wider sense of how Imperial pioneered the use of video in science education, as this entry on Professor Eric Laithwaite demonstrates. The videos are also available on YouTube
