    The RGO is a database of over 650 film, television, radio and related documentation collections and artefacts in the United Kingdom and Ireland, designed for use by researchers. These physical artefacts combine to represent all the key practices within screen history including the magic lantern, film, television and the digital present. They include magic lanterns and slides, optical toys, film production equipment, television and video equipment, cinema equipment and fittings, artwork for animation, sets and costumes, sound technology, toys and games and documentation such as photographs, scripts, sheet music and personal papers. The database covers national and regional archives as well stockshot libraries and collections held by local authorities, museums, institutions of further and higher education, industrial companies and private individuals.
    Each record has live e-mail and weblinks, and the data is regularly updated by the BUFVC’s Information Service.

    TRILT is the most comprehensive online listings of television and radio programmes on all major channels receivable in the UK, including regional variations. Listings data is available several days in advance of transmission and will build up as an archive of programme information, going back to 1995. Selected programmes of value to HE/FE are enhanced and there are weblinks and indications of sources of post-transmission videotapes, including the BUFVC’s off-air recording backup service. BUFVC members can now use it to order their off-air requests dependent on their individual entitlement options.

    This interesting site focuses on the history of the media. At the core of the resource is Chronomedia, a timeline of important moments in the history of all communications media, from 1885 to 2008.

    Other useful resources include British Historical Media Statistics, which includes information on cinema admissions and British usage of radio, television and video; a collection of documents on media themes; and an entertaining selection of quotations about the media, arranged by theme.

    MeCCSA is the subject association for the field of media, communication and cultural studies in UK Higher Education. This includes film and TV production, journalism, radio, photography, creative writing, publishing, interactive media and the web. A section of the membership is organised around supporting practice-based education and research; and three networks are devoted to women’s media studies, race, and postgraduate issues. MeCCSA holds an annual conference as well as other events, produces a twice-yearly newsletter and puts news items on its website, and operates a discussion and information list through the JISCmail system that is open to both members and non-members. It welcomes discussion on all matters of interest to academics and researchers within the areas of Media, Culture, Film, Television, Media Production, Radio, and other aspects of Communications Studies.

    Creative Skillset is the Creative Industries’ Sector Skills Council (SSC) which comprises TV, film, radio, interactive media, animation, computer games, facilities, photo imaging, publishing, advertising and fashion and textiles. Its aim is to support the productivity of the industry to ensure that it remains globally competitive. To this end the organisation conducts consultation work with industry, publishes research and strategic documents, runs funding schemes and project work, and provides careers resources for those looking for a route into the creative industries, as well as for established industry professionals. The website provides rich resources in all these areas.

    A nostalgia site for American radio which is wide-ranging and informative, including useful sections on radio news (commentators, major stories and series such as The March of Time), science fiction, private eyes, comedy and mystery.
