A collection of 29 animations created by students at Sheffield Hallam University. The 3-minute videos are all about issues the students are concerned with and so they are likely to be of use to spark debate in the classroom. One of the best examples of moving image applied to industry is the films made by the British Transport Film Unit between 1949 and 1982. They catered for the transport industry’s need to train its vast work-force, keep the public informed of new developments, and manage their corporate reputation within the sector. Network Rail commissions short videos to support today’s needs including, internal reviews, scientific research, historical records, training, safety, corporate communication and public relations. Their videos are available on their Youtube Channel and are organised into Playlists which include: Week on the Network, Safety, Level Crossing, Working with Communities and Passengers and detailed account of specific improvement plans such as Ordsall Chord and the Electrification project from Gospel Oak to Barking.

Online resource created by researchers from six Scottish universities to provide teachers and students of phonetics with examples of ultrasound tongue imaging (UTI) and lip video speech, magnetic resonance imaging video speech and 2D midsagittal head animations. The website offers a series of < ahref="https://www.seeingspeech.ac.uk/ipa-charts/">interactive charts which allow the user to listen to sounds and see vocal-organ movements imaged with either ultrasound, MRI or in animated form. There is also the Dynamics Dialects interactive articulatory accent database, which contains an articulatory video-based corpus of speech samples from world-wide accents of English. Resources on this site are grouped into: Accent Map, Accent Chart and an Introduction to UTI and Lip video recording techniques.

A public learning laboratory, The Exploratorium, is devoted to just that: exploring the world through science, art and human perception. Their mission is ‘to create inquiry-based experiences that transform learning worldwide’ and perhaps more importantly their vision is ‘a world where people think for themselves and can confidently ask questions, question answers, and understand the world around them’. The museum makes available a vast range of, video programmes, organised by subjects, including: Arts (532 videos), Astronomy and Space (220), Biology (331), Chemistry (97), History (35), Mathematics (19), Nature of Science (13), Perception (55), Physics (215), and Social Science (575). The new home to all the BBC classroom resources, which cover 22 subjects ranging from early years to GCSE. Major cultural events such as Black History Month or Shakespeare Season are also covered. The new site includes: Primary and Secondary Class clips, which are arranged by subject and age group; Live Lessons, half-hour curriculum-linked webcasts for the classroom; School Radio, with resources covering music, dance, history, collective workshop, literacy and maths; Terrific Scientific, which is aimed at encouraging scientific enquiry for Key Stage2; Ten Pieces, the classical music project which aims to open up the world of classical music to 7 to 14-year-old across the UK.

Launched in 2007, The Do Lectures project aims to ‘create a safe space to ask better questions’. The event runs for three days once a year and is hosted on an old farm in Cardigan, West Wales. The talks are filmed and then made available for free. The lectures are organised into ten categories: Adventure, Business, Creativity, Education, Environment, Food, Future You, Social Change, Technology and Well-being.

Who makes History? This resource, launched in 2014, is dedicated to recording and popularising people’s history, that is, the history of ‘everyday women, men, people of colour, migrants, indigenous people, LGTB people, disabled people, workers, the unemployed, housewives and single mothers, as opposed to the history of rich and powerful individuals, kings, queens and politicians’. The collection of podcasts presented here tell the stories of past struggles which still resonate today. Each episode has a ‘Footnotes’ section, which offers links to relevant resources including short videos, articles written at the time, and websites. Events covered so far are: the Grunwick strike of East African and Asian women workers in London 1976-8; The Angry Brigade, Britain’s first urban guerrilla group; Anti-Nazi youth movements in World War II; Workmates: organising with agency workers on London Underground; Industrial Workers of the World in the US, 1905-1918 and 1918-1950s; The West Virginia mine Wars, 1902-1922; The Vietnam War strike wave; Spanish Civil War; The League of Revolutionary Black Workers in Detroit; Women in the Miners strike; Peterloo massacre with Mike Leigh; Women in the early IWW (Industrial Workers of the World Union).
