Rosa Luxemburg

Synopsis
Biopic of one of the most fascinating and inspiring figures in modern European history.
'Red Rosa’ Luxemburg, a dedicated pacifist and Marxist revolutionary, is arrested in 1905 for her political activities. Determined to stick to her principles, she goes on to be repeatedly convicted and imprisoned for her protests and speeches. In 1915, growing disillusioned with the German Social Democrats when they endorse the bloodshed World War I, she founds the Spartacist League, later the Communist Party of Germany (KPD). Despite turbulence in her personal life, Rosa remains focused on social justice and her revolutionary goals. Ultimately, her threat to the establishment is such that she is brutally murdered by state-sanctioned forces in 1919. Directed by Margarethe Von Trotta, one of the pioneers of German New Wave cinema and the first woman to win the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival (1981).
