Giulietta e Romeo

Synopsis
Production of Nicola Vaccai’s rarely-performed two-act opera from 1827 derived not from Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet but from the same source, Luigi Da Porto’s novella written in the 1520s. In the opera Romeo is a ‘trouser role’ played by a woman, in this production by the mezzo soprano Raffaella Lupinacci.
