Richard Wagner: Power, Sex and Revolution (Part 2)

Synopsis
Two hundred years after the composer’s birth, journalist Paul Mason takes a fresh look at Wagner. In the second part of his journey through his music, Mason turns to the seemingly conventional world of a singing competition in 16th-century Nuremburg. But Die Meistersinger reveals dark seams beneath its surface: complex human relationships and an attitude to nationalism and race which raise fundamental questions about the validity of Wagner’s very artistic mission.
