Syria: Chess Match at the Borders
- Synopsis
- Syria is a single-party dictatorship country, ruled since 1970 by Hafez al-Assad and, following his death in 2000, by his son Bashar. Despite the lack of any significant oil reserves, this nation is both a strategic and a besieged country; it is simultaneously a player and a pawn in the geopolitical "chess match" that characterises the Middle East today. The documentary chronicles the historical background to this situation, focusing on the three Arab-Israeli wars -in 1948, 1967 and 1973- and their legacy for Syria.
