Farming Year: Europe (Part 4, Winter), The

Synopsis
Cameraman and farm machinery enthusiast Sascha Jussen goes to his native Germany as well as France, Belgium and Holland, to film a DVD series that shows clearly how farm machinery is used throughout the seasons in 21st century Europe. The programme shows a range of the latest equipment in action along with many older machines that are still used in the countryside. Filmed through the winter of 2015/2016, Part 4
looks at classic and modern tractors at work. The emphasis turns now to planting next years crops as well as harvesting the vegetable crops such as cabbages and brussels sprouts, both by hand and machine. A highlight of this programme is the look inside the reception area of a sugar beet factory in Germany.
As the weather turns from mild to very cold a lot of farmers are spreading manure on the fields and then ploughing; there is also a lot of green manure chopping featured, and a look at work on a fruit farm and a few dairy holdings.
