Farming Year: Europe (Part 2, Summer), The

Synopsis: Cameraman and farm machinery enthusiast Sascha Jussen goes to his native Germany as well as France, Belgium and Holland, to film a DVD series that shows clearly how farm machinery is used throughout the seasons in 21st century Europe. The programme shows a range of the latest equipment in action along with many older machines that are still used in the countryside. In Part 2, Jussen turns his attention to the summer period when the harvesting of various crops is underway including flax, blackcurrants, peas, broad beans and of course wheat, barley, oats and oilseed rape. The programme also shows haymaking in progress along with large sprayers, slurry tankers and potato harvesters. Highlights include pea harvesting teams, roof mounted straw spreaders and harvesting wheat on the massive fields of eastern Germany.
