- Synopsis
- An opera by Britten with a libretto by Montagu Slater from George Crabbe’s poem ‘Peter Grimes’, which appeared in his book, The Borough. The borough in the opera is a fictional village which shares some similarities with Crabbe’s, and later Britten’s, own home of Aldeburgh in Suffolk, England. This production focuses on the fisherman as the outsider in a brutal and brutalised 1980s society, cut off by mutual suspicion and misunderstanding.
