Hot Coffee: Is Justice Being Served?
- Synopsis
- First-time filmmaker and former public interest lawyer Susan Saladoff uses the legal battle that began with a spilled cup of coffee at a McDonald’s restaurant to investigate who and what is behind America’s zeal for tort reform. The documentary illustrates key legal concepts such as liability, litigation, arbitration and damages. It also questions the long held belief that the American legal system needs urgent reform.
DVD features: original 86-minute version and a 50-minute version of the film; SDH captions for the deaf and hard-of-hearing, scene selection, and five extras: FRANK LUNTZ: THE WORDS MATTER [2:14]; INSURANCE RATES [1:27]; INTERVIEW WITH DIRECTOR [6:01]; HOT COFFEE, MISSISSIPPI [1:53]; TAKE ACTION: WHAT YOU CAN DO [1:04]. Also, a DVD-ROM with a discussion guide covering the four cases, and a bibliography. - Language
