- First broadcast in 2001, this BBC documentary series focuses on the Congo River of Central Africa by exploring the rich variety of animals and habitats that are to be found along the river’s 4, 700 kilometres reach. As well as hosting chimpanzees, elephants, hippos and gorillas the Congo River is home to some unique species and subspecies including antelopes (black lechwe, oribi, tsessebe), moustached guenons, crowned guenons, red colobus monkeys, okapis, the blue duiker, blue turacos, black mangabeys, red river hogs, orb-web spiders, colonial spiders, the Bichir (a primitive fish), cichlids, the elephant-snout fish, the north African catfish, water cobras, the spotted-necked otter and the water chevrotain.
