- Tired of putting up with her abusive brother, her lack of school prospects and the "boys’ law" in the neighbourhood, 16 year-old Marieme starts a new life after joining an irresistibly energetic female gang. She changes her name, her hair style and drops out of school, and starts stealing to be accepted into the group. This is an impressive coming of age story, which continues writer-director Celine Sciamma’s ongoing work around the theme of female identity within the framework of youth, gender, race and sexual orientation.
