Synopsis

After years of underground development bitcoin has grabbed the attention of not just the public but the banks and regulators too. Is ‘the most disruptive invention since the internet’ a real threat to mainstream capitalism and the current financial status quo? This documentary covers the history and basic events in the life of the cryptocurrency so far, paying special attention to the 2014 New York Department of Financial Services hearing on bitcoin. It also includes interviews with cryptographer David Chaum and some of the earliest bitcoin adopters including Charlie Shrem, Erik Voorhees, Gavin Andresen, Nick Spanos, the Winklevoss twins, and Barry Silbert.
