Sounds from the Park
- Synopsis
- Radio show which explores the history and traditions of Britain’s last great open air oratory site, the Speakers’ Corner in Hyde Park, London. Speakers, hecklers and spectators of diverse backgrounds, ages and opinions explain what Speakers’ Corner has meant to them. They describe finding fun, new ideas, an embarking on an apprenticeship in public speaking. These oral histories capture the unique atmosphere of Hyde Park itself, including the cut and thrust of face-to-face debate, the eccentric performances and the chaotic soundscapes. Produced by On the Record, a small co-operative specialising in oral history projects.
