Letters from Baghdad
- Synopsis
- Biographical documentary about the explorer, cartographer, photographer, archaeologist and ethnographer Gertrude Bell, who travelled widely in Arabia before being recruited by British military intelligence to help draw the borders of Iraq after WWI. Using never-seen-before footage of the region and Bell’s own photographic archive, the film chronicles her extraordinary journey into both the uncharted Arabian desert and the inner sanctum of British male colonial power. Tilda Swinton is the voice of Bell off the screen, and a small cast of actors play some of the key people who knew her, including T.E. Lawrence.
