Mini Machines 101: General Machinist Series Toolmaking & Restoration DVD

Synopsis
Instructional DVD. This film gives practical advice on restoring damaged parts, designing and making special tools, focusing particularly how to cut threads with a mini lathe.

Amongst the demonstrations included are:

Demonstration using a 40-year-old oil pump shaft from a vintage Italian Aermacchi engine, with a damaged end. The film explains the technique to synchronize the lathe to the existing threads, so that the damaged threads can be recut and the part saved.

How to measure and lay out a complex bolt pattern from the same engine manually, and tricks for doing it with a CAD programme.

How to use the layout to make a universal press and separator tool, as well as flywheel and armature pullers; tools that are no longer available, yet necessary to disassemble the motor.

Also includes advice on material and design considerations for tooling in general.
