What Really Happened in Y2k?
- Synopsis
- Grehsam College lecture by Professor Martyn Thomas. As the year 2000 approached, many people feared that computer programmes storing year values as two-digit figures (such as 99) would cause problems. There is a widespread belief that the millennium bug was a myth, invented by rapacious consultants as a way to make money. This lecture asks what the truth was, what, if anything, happened and whether we have learnt all the right lessons? [53 minutes]
