Fastline Films 1: Mechanical Signalling

Synopsis
This two-DVD set is the first of a series of films using historic instruction films made by British Transport Films in the 1950s.

This is the material with which railwaymen were trained over fifty years ago, in the use and maintenance of the equipment of the day, and which is still in use on parts of Network Rail, and most standard gauge heritage railways.

The training films are supplemented, as an historical bonus, by other films including some from BTF and others from elsewhere in the railway industry.

On DVD 1, the historical bonus is Right Down the Line, made by Gateway Films for STC in 1962 to record the work undertaken on the electrification of the lines into Fenchurch Street.

On DVD 2, there is first a short, silent film made by the photographic unit of the NE Region to show the newly mechanised level crossing gates at Walton Street, Hull.

This is followed by Safety on the Track, made by BTF for London Transport in 1951, and filmed in the Finchley Road, Northfields and Neasden areas.
