Suitable for students aged 13-plus, this (2006) DVD looks at plagiarism in all its forms, oulines its negative effects, and explains the relevant research, quoting and referencing skills to enable a student to avoid intential or unintential plagiarism. The programme deals in turn with:

Definition of plagiarism: we go to school or college to learn, but when we fall into the plagiarism trap little positive learning is achieved.

Different forms of plagiarism - laziness, lack of confidence and research skills, poor time management, unintentional plagiarism.

Detection and consequences - using language and ideas beyond a student’s usual capabilities or source material recognised by teacher, plagiarism-detecting computer software; morally and legally wrong to plagiarise; students failed for plagiarism - impact on subsequent education options.

Ways to avoid plagiarism - nothing wrong in using other people’s work if it is properly acknowledged; preparing a bibliography; important to note references as you use them.
