Share Remixing Digital Archives: The Victorian Meme Machine
- Synopsis
- Bob Nicholson (Edge Hill University) discusses a project which he undertook in 2014 with the British Library Labs to find and revive thousands of forgotten Victorian jokes. His ‘Victorian Meme Machine’ automatically converts old jokes into images and posts them on social media using a ‘Mechanical Comedian’. In this podcast he reports on progress and outlines plans for a new transcription platform designed around the principles of ‘meaningful gamification’. [54 minutes]
