Sex and the Law
- Synopsis
- Geoffrey Nice talks about sex and the law with reference to the Jimmy Savile case and those of other celebrities whose crimes have recently come to light. He wonders whether in the light of these revelations we should ask ourselves whether the sexual and social freedoms of the 1960s were necessarily a good thing and re-evaluate the campaigning efforts of Mary Whitehouse whose sense that civilisation was fragile was, according to Nice, with hindsight a better evaluation of the times than the sense that individual freedom was paramount.
