Supporting Women with Learning Disabilities Through the Menopause

Synopsis: This training resource (CD ROM + DVD) is designed to fill a gap in available material on the menopause for women with learning disabilities, as identified by residential and day services staff. The illustrated, DVD pack provides a comprehensive introduction to the physical, emotional, psychological and social effects of the menopause and how it might differently affect women with learning disabilities to those in the general population. This resource provides materials for both service users, and their carers to inform, advise and encourage women with learning disabilities to cope better with what can be a distressing transition. This resource includes: background material; training exercises; suggested programmes for running short half-day or one-day courses; photocopiable leaflet templates providing material for doctors, staff, parents/carers and women with learning disabilities; a video to stimulate discussion and provide information through illustrations and group work.
