Initial Practice: An Introduction to African and Caribbean Dance and Music
- Synopsis
- INITIAL PRACTICE (1995) was commissioned and compiled by Kokuma Dance Theatre and funded by Arts Council of England. It provides an insight into two dance techniques, Gahu from Ghana and Kumina from Jamaica, and looks at their relationship with the music. The video is based on the dance style of Kokuma Dance Theatre: it shows basic stance, isolations and locomotive steps, including a warm-up and two progressions. Accompanied by educational notes which outline key aspects and provide some additional information. A useful resource for those interested in an introduction to Afro-Caribbean dance styles.
