Evan Davies: Reflections on the British Economy

Synopsis
In his role as Visiting Professor of the Public Understanding of Business, Evan Davis gives his first public lecture in front of an audience at The Open University campus. Hosted in association with the Economic and Social Research Council’s Festival of Social Science, the lecture explores the challenge faced by the UK economy and its international performance, in the context of competition from emerging economies.
Davies considers three elements as part of his survey: the continuing contribution of manufacturing; the UK’s comparative advantage in intellectual property and the threats from emerging economies as they develop tradable services. [45 minutes]
