Bridging the World

Synopsis
This documentary looks at some of the most famous bridges in the world and, with the help of a team of experts and the use of archive footage, shows how they were built and how they remain upright. Amongst the bridges considered are British-designed Millau Viaduct, the Skye Bridge in Scotland; the Millennium Bridge in London and the tilting Millennium Bridge in Gateshead. The programme also looks at British ideas for new habitable bridges and explores the idea of a bridge across the Thames which hopes to house dozens of houses and shops in a design that mirrors the original London Bridge.
