Story of Port Sunlight

Synopsis
With the aid of old movie film this video traces the story of Port Sunlight from its foundation by William Hesketh Lever in 1888 to the present day. The village, of major architectural significance and now a conservation area, was built to house Lever’s workforce. The film looks at the village as it was and as it is now, including the Lady Lever Art Gallery, the Heritage Centre (formerly the Lever Free Library), Hulme Hall, Gladstone Theatre, Bridge Inn, the School and the Church. Some of the events include a celebration of Founders Day and Remembrance Day parade at the war memorial. Today tourism plays a major role in the life of the village as more people have become aware of its attractions and the significance of its contribution to social development in Great Britain.
