Is There a Right to Disobedience and Resistance?

Synopsis
Birkbeck School of Law’s 2013 Annual Lecture. Professor Costas Douzinas examines the legal right to resistance in the context of recent social upheavals and protest movements, from the Arab Spring to Spain’s indignados and Occupy. The legal position of these movements remains problematic, but Professor Douzinas argues that the ‘right to resistance’ remains the highest form of political freedom and moral responsibility.
