Environmental Ethics

Synopsis
This DVD includes five films exploring environmental questions from an ethical and religious viewpoint. GAIA (18 minutes) compares the life of the planet to the life of a 45 year old woman, and takes the viewer on a journey from humanity’s beginnings to the last few seconds of biological time. GENESIS (18 minutes) looks at the injunction from the Book of Genesis for man to have dominion over all things, while STEWARDS AND SLAYERS (21 minutes) examines the Biblical notion of "stewardship" over the animal kingdom. The RAPTURE (18 minutes) looks at the views of Christian fundamentalists who believe that the environmental disasters we currently face are of little concern as they are signs that the Rapture is close at hand. ALL THINGS ARE CONNECTED (16 minutes) compares the views of Christian colonisers, mapmakers, missionaries and mercenaries, who believed that the natural world existed entirely for human gain, with the indigenous Indians of the Americas, who experienced nature as a sacred web of interdependent phenomena.
