Synopsis
Rory Stewart tells the story of foreign intervention in Afghanistan from the 19th century to the present day. In part 1, Stewart looks at how control of Afghanistan was seen by Victorian Britain as key to the security of India, while in the second part, he considers the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan and its aftermath: civil war and the rise of the Taliban.
