Alcohol Detoxification: A Case Study
- Synopsis
- This case study follows a patient undergoing in-patient detoxification for alcohol, whose progress is typical: in other words, not straightforward. There are many teaching points along the way. We see the highlights of the assessment and hear of the long term problems that she has experienced. She describes the time in the clinic and discharge. She returns, having started drinking again for a further admission and discusses why things went wrong. There is a follow up interview recorded about six months later. The result is impressive.
On the extras menu is an interview with a senior consultant psychiatrist (Dr M. Atkins) who discusses a number of the medical aspects of addiction. There is also a discussion with nursing staff about the day-to-day problems commonly found in looking after such patients. - Language
