Hungarian Uprising
- Synopsis
- On October 25th 1956, many Hungarians attending a peaceful demonstration were fired upon by the secret police - the hated AVH. Hundreds were killed, the incident provoked civil war, and on October 29th the revolution was seemingly victorious. The people had forced the Soviet giant back, and all Hungarians believed they could create a free nation. At dawn on November 4th, 2,500 Russian tanks and 75,000 soldiers entered Budapest and seized control with many fatalities. All organised resistance was crushed. Two hundred thousand people left Hungary, unable to live under Soviet rule.
