Key Moments in the ‘Commedia’ 1: Inferno I, 1 - 3

Synopsis

Podcast in which Matthew Traherne of the Leeds Centre for Dante Studies considers the first three lines of Dante’s Divine Comedy. Traherne sets the lines in context, then reads them, first in Italian, followed by an English translation. This is followed by a close reading of the text, informed by Traherne’s knowledge of Dante’s life and his religious and philosophical beliefs. Other podcasts in the series also cover key moments in the poem, each item consisting of an analysis of a brief passage from the poem. [20 minutes]
