Velvet Hangover

Synopsis
This DVD features candid interviews with the filmmakers - including Vera Chytilova, Jiri Menzel, Jan Nemec, and Ivan Passer among others - who created the body of work that has come to be known as the Czech New Wave, as well as the views of younger Czech filmmakers. They recount the struggles they faced as they tried to realise their artistic visions in a constantly shifting political landscape, from the heady days of the mid-Sixties and the Prague Spring through the repressive period of "Normalisation" and up to the time the film was made, ten years after the Velvet Revolution. Their comments reflect the moral and spiritual crisis that pervades the Czech Republic at the end of the 20th century.
