Cinema Komunisto

Synopsis
This documentary traces the history of the Yugoslavian film industry, which under the auspices of the nation’s leader Josep Broz Tito - an avid cinephile - was heavily funded by the state, with the aim of making Yugoslavia an international centre of film production. The film offers an overview of Yugoslavian films from the Soviet era which were made in the manner of American films but followed the polemical pattern of Russian cinema, as well as the post-Soviet Yugoslavian cinema, after Tito funded construction of one of the world’s largest movie studios and lured American producers to Eastern Europe with unprecedented levels of official co-operation. The film also includes an interview with Tito’s official projectionist, Leka Konstantinovic, who served the Yugoslav premier for over thirty years, and a tour at the remnants of the former nation’s once glorious studios.
