Dark Charisma of Adolf Hitler, The

Synopsis
Historian Laurence Rees examines the conundrum of Adolf Hitler: a figure fuelled by hate, incapable of forming normal human relationships and unwilling to debate political issues, who nontheless commanded the support of millions of Germans, ultimately to the defeat of their own country. Using diary and eye-witness testimonials, archive and specially shot footage, this series examines Hitler’s manipulation of existing beliefs in Germany, his relationship with the people he led, and the way in which his leadership functioned. Featuring the testimony of former Nazis, many of whom dealt personally with Hitler as well as ordinary Germans, this series reveals why he was helped to power by the country’s elite, how he became an almost god-like figure to so many people and how he tried to retain power even in adversity.
