Little Waterfall
- Synopsis
- Shallalah Saghirah ('Little Waterfall’) is a small village of about twenty households located in the Khanasser valley, in north Syria. The village has no electricity and still uses an ancient system, known locally as qanat, which consists of a 1,500-year old Byzantine water tunnel, 520 metres long. However, decades of migration and family conflicts have caused the tunnel’s maintenance to be ignored. Joshka Wessel’s film explores the processes involved in the rehabilitation of the village’s traditional water tunnel system.
