Rosie Newman’s Britain at War in Colour

Synopsis
Filmed and edited by socialite and amateur filmmaker Rosie Newman, this 1946 documentary shows members of the armed forces engaged in training exercises as well as fascinating shots of life on the Home Front. Among the highlights are footage of the Blitz and its aftermath in London’s West End; evacuees and auxiliary hospitals in the countryside; tank manoeuvres; an extensive section on D-Day preparations and the return of German POWs from the front to British prisons. DVD extras include an audio commentary by Jane Fish of the Imperial War Museum as well as a 64 page reproduction of Rosie Newman’s 1948 self-published book, ‘Britain At War’, which provides an overview of the wartime subject matter she filmed.
