David Hockney Collection: Art and Life of David Hockney

Synopsis
Collection of documentary films about David Hockney, revealing the artist at three different stages of his career. PLEASURES OF THE EYE looks at Hockney’s philosophy, life and work, discussing the large narrative painting ‘A Visit with Christopher and Don, Santa Monica Canyon 1984’, one of his 1980s photocollages, and an exhibition of his stage designs for Eric Satie’s ‘Parade’ in Munich. JOINER PHOTOGRAPHS follows Hockney at a stage in his career in the 1980s when he abandoned conventional painting to experiment with photographic collages which he termed ‘joiners’. Finally HOCKNEY AT THE TATE takes the form of an extended interview filmed at the artist’s Tate Gallery retrospective in 1988, discusses his career and provides insights into some of his key works and the contemporary art scene.
