Mapping Stem Cell Research: Terra Incognita
- Synopsis
- Documentary about the experiences of Dr Jack Kessler, chair of Northwestern University’s Neurology department, who shifted his research from finding a cure for diabetes to finding a cure with stem cell research for spinal cord injuries when his teenaged daughter suffered a skiing accident that resulted in paralysis. The film follows Kessler’s progress and sees how he uses his position to argue the benefits of stem cell research in the face of opposition from Christian groups, and in a political climate which saw the then-President George W. Bush veto Stem Cell Research and Enhancement Act of 2005.
